Teaching

My teaching background is strongly multi-disciplinary. Most recently, I’ve taught in library and information science. At WSU, I taught Intro to the Information Professions, the introductory MLIS course, Organization of Knowledge, the entry level cataloging course but a wonderful opportunity to think about epistemology and categories, and Evaluation Research, a small-scale, qualitative research course for practitioners. I was nominated for the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for this work.

I also led a seminar in Media Theory for advanced, independent learners in Detroit.

Previously, I served as a Teaching Assistant at UCSC. TAs at UCSC typically lead section discussions, provide mini-lectures, and do other bona fide teaching work in addition to grading, despite the title “assistant.” I thoroughly enjoyed my cross disciplinary teaching in film, philosophy of science, science and technology studies, feminist studies, and interdisciplinary humanities. I was honored with the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for my teaching at UCSC.

I have also taught in my various capacities as a librarian, with responsibilities for formal information literacy classes as well as lots of on-the-fly, one on one instruction of patrons using old and new information technologies.

In addition to teaching, I enjoy skill sharing opportunities to learn from others and share what I know about gardening, chickens, fixing old cars, finding credible information online, and genetic genealogy.
